Jan was born on December 1st, 1685 in Acquackanonk, NJ.  Jan's father was Jan Harmensen Coerten and his mother was Neeltje Buys (Coerten).  His paternal grandparents were Harmen Coeten and Aertje Gerrits (Coeten); his maternal grandparents were Jan Buys and Eybe Blaicom (Buys). He had a sibling of unknown gender named Gysbertje.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died in Passaic Co. NJ.
