Daniel was born on April 5th, 1910.  Daniel's father was Daniel B. DeGroat and his mother was Tressie M..  His paternal grandparents were Andrew DeGroat and Emma F. Sigler (DeGroat). He had two brothers and two sisters, named Earnest, Kenneth, Ethel and Tressa.  He was the fourth oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 66 in June 1976.
