Paul was born in January 1900.  Paul's father was Andrew DeGroat and his mother was Emma F. Sigler (DeGroat).  His paternal grandparents were John DeGroat and Margurette Perry (DeGroat). He had seven brothers and a sister, named Daniel, William, James, John, Judine / Judson ?, Clarence, Stanley and Minnie.  He was the youngest of the nine children.
